How HD Hyundai Oilbank Sustained CPR Training Engagement with Gamified Rankings

Employees lining up at an HD Hyundai Oilbank CPR Station kiosk during a workplace CPR challenge

Hello, everyone—this is Editor I. What usually happens when a new device arrives at your workplace?

People may be curious enough to try it for the first few days, but within a month it can easily become little more than a decorative fixture gathering dust.

Sound familiar? Today’s case is different.

Although the system was installed quite some time ago, we heard that it still draws an enthusiastic crowd of employees every lunchtime.

This is a workplace where safety training is enjoyed not as a tedious lesson, but as an exciting CPR game.

Shall we find out what keeps it so engaging?

Still Going Strong: HD Hyundai Oilbank

Today’s featured organization is HD Hyundai Oilbank, a company deeply committed to safety.

It has been some time since IMLAB supplied its solution to this site.

You might expect interest to have faded by now, but the person in charge told us that it is actually more popular than ever.

The CPR Station in the lobby is reportedly busy with employees trying to beat the current high score.

So, how has it maintained such lasting popularity?

The Challenge on the Ground

Many safety managers share the same concern.

“Even when we invest in good equipment, the problem is that only the same few people end up using it.

People try it at first out of curiosity, but eventually it begins to feel like a chore. There is not enough motivation to keep them participating.”

No matter how worthwhile a training program may be, people will avoid it if it is not engaging.

Repetitive practice can be especially monotonous. HD Hyundai Oilbank addressed this challenge intelligently with meaningful rewards and fair rules for the game.

What Is CPR Station? Key benefits of the self-guided training kiosk

IMLAB’s technology and HD Hyundai Oilbank’s program design came together to transform safety training into an exciting CPR game.

CPR Station is designed for learners of all ages and allows them to train without a professional instructor.

Its Ranking Mode also lets learners see their CPR scores as part of the training experience.

1. Training without time or location constraints

  • A training system available 24 hours a day
  • Flexible practice for shift workers
  • A structured self-guided training program

2. A structured training curriculum

  • Step-by-step learning from basic theory to hands-on practice
  • Flexible practice for shift workers
  • A systematic process designed for independent learning

3. Sustained training effectiveness

  • Motivation through a ranking system
  • Skill development through repeated practice
  • Training-completion and performance management

4. Cost efficiency

  • Designed to help minimize additional costs after installation
  • Designed to help reduce operational disruption from coordinating training schedules

And above all, there is one more essential part of the training program.

5. Data-driven management

  • Real-time monitoring of employee training activity
  • Training-completion management by department and individual
  • Data analysis to maintain training quality

From CPR to AED Training

The latest version of CPR Station provides an immersive learning experience that covers not only CPR, but also how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED), through video instruction and hands-on practice modes.

With CPR Station, learners can repeatedly practice the complete CPR sequence while focusing on correct compression depth, rate, and chest recoil.

The Secret to Sustained Use

Here is how HD Hyundai Oilbank made full use of IMLAB’s solution to sustain long-term participation.

A Real CPR Game with Prize Money

HD Hyundai Oilbank goes beyond offering a one-time experience by holding regular events.

The prize amounts are enough to get anyone’s attention:

  • 🥇 First place: KRW 500,000
  • 🥈 Second place: KRW 300,000
  • 🥉 Third place: KRW 100,000

With meaningful rewards on the line, employees approached the challenge with renewed focus.

Colleagues compete while joking, “I’m taking first place today—and then I’m buying the coffee!” It feels almost like playing a CPR game at an arcade.

As a result, voluntary participation has been exceptionally high.

Editor I’s Tip for Long-Term Engagement

How to Use the Hall of Fame Reset

When a company holds a prize competition like HD Hyundai Oilbank, defining the competition period is essential.

For example, if the prize is meant for this month’s top performer, it would be a problem if a score set last year were still occupying first place.

This is where the Hall of Fame Reset becomes especially useful for program managers.

The feature allows managers to start a new season from any chosen date.

Before the Event: Reset for Fairness—Anyone Can Win

Clear the existing records immediately before the event. Every employee will begin from the same starting point—zero—so even a newly hired employee who joins later can think, “I have a real chance,” and compete without concerns about fairness.

After the Event: Sustain Motivation

Once the event is over, it can be helpful to reset exceptionally high, seemingly unbeatable scores at an appropriate time.

If only unbreakable records remain, future participants may give up before trying because they assume they cannot reach the rankings.

The flexibility to launch a new event at any time, without being constrained by previous competition periods, is a valuable tool for any program manager.

The Data Tells the Story: Engagement and Performance Soared

Was the program simply enjoyable, with no further impact?

Far from it. Actual data recorded in CPR Cloud demonstrates a remarkable change.

First, consider participation. According to the CPR Cloud data presented in the source post, the previous three-month baseline averaged 229 recorded participations per month, while the two-week campaign logged 5,213.

The source reports a 2,177% increase—about 23 times the previous monthly average.

The chart illustrates the substantial rise in recorded CPR training activity during the campaign.

The CPR practice scores also improved. Before the campaign, employees had an average survival score of 1,945, corresponding to the kiosk's Performed Above Standard (A+) grade.

During the event, the average score rose to 2,046.

Within the kiosk's scoring system, that result falls in the Performed Well (S) grade.

An A+ was already a strong result; during the campaign, the group average reached the kiosk's S grade.

The program paired stronger engagement with improved CPR practice scores—a meaningful result for workplace safety training.

Closing Thoughts

No more installing equipment only to leave it unused.

As HD Hyundai Oilbank demonstrates, when meaningful motivation is paired with IMLAB’s smart management capabilities, safety training can become an in-house event that everyone looks forward to.
